Wise silence

Having the self-command to remain silent instead of responding to conflict in ways that we will later regret is very rewarding. It feels wonderful to witness a conflictive situation unfold positively – almost miraculously so – thanks to us exercising restraint.

And what’s the secret behind that self-command?

Love.

Silence allows us to stop short from acting in ways that are not founded in love. And for those of us who choose to act with love: it certainly isn’t easy, but it is undoubtedly the only possible path towards peace of mind.

We are not wise, but our silence preventing us from being unwise is wisdom.

Give silence a try.

It takes a lot of practice. In fact, it takes a lifetime of practice. But it is a worthwhile learning curve paved with inspirational moments.
